I guess I'm left a bit confused by your title - 'Faith, Fiction, and Folklore'. Is this suggesting that you are people of faith? Or, is this just referencing 'faith' in a general sense? Because if you are people if faith, your Bible tells you how the earth is structured.

Just a follow up thought.

Perhaps it would be worthwhile looking into the feasibility of a vacuum called 'space' even existing in the first place. The answer to this will negate the logic of even having a debate over whether or not a 'spacecraft' would be able to generate thrust with no medium off which to exert force.

'Space' is said to be a near perfect vacuum. Our atmosphere here on earth at sea level is 14.7 psi. The laws of science regarding pressures say that there must be a solid structure of some sort between two areas of different pressure for them to exist side-by-side without equalizing. So the claim of earth, having a positively pressured atmosphere of 14.7 psi is allegedly completely surrounded by something called 'space' which is a near perfect vacuum and there is no structure between these two different areas of pressure and they don't equalize.

So what happened with science? Is this one of those exceptions where those who 'trust the science' don't trust the science. Is science lying? I suggest not. In fact, areas of different pressure will aways require something to separate if they are to exist side-by-side. There's no way around this. And we can quite easily determine the pressure of our atmosphere on earth. Given these two well known and understood facts, it should be quite easy to reasonably conclude that there is no near perfect vacuum called 'space' beyond our own atmosphere. This would render the debate of jet propulsion unnecessary and nothing more than fantasy that we ca demonstrate one way or the other right here on earth for ourselves. It would also show that 'space travel' is nothing more than fun and exciting musings of the human imagination, that there have been no trips to the moon, and nothing any higher in altitude thn low earth orbit, as has been said a number of times.

I am very comfortable saying that above us is water. Just the same below us - water. Of course, this would be venturing off into other disciplines that somehow manage to offend and 'trigger' people so I'll leave it at this for now.
